dc.description.abstract | This workbook provides an in-depth introduction to contact mechanics and tribology, exploring the complex interactions between surfaces in contact. After a presentation of the theoretical foundations, it covers key concepts such as:Elasticity and plasticity in contact zones.Contact models: Hertz, Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR), and other approaches.Surface roughness and its impact on tribological phenomena.Study of adhesion forces and friction at different scales (macro, micro, nano).Wear and lubrication mechanisms and their influence on the performance of materials. The course handout also explores practical applications, particularly in the fields of mechanical engineering, aeronautics and the design of wear-resistant coatings. Examples illustrate how to optimise interfaces by taking tribological phenomena into account, particularly in complex mechanical systems. With practical exercises and case studies, this book is aimed at students, researchers and engineers wishing to master the fundamental and advanced principles of tribology and contact mechanics. | en_US |
